We are participating in Walk for Children’s 2026 not only to honor the team that saved our son, Carmelo’s life, but to support the resources that help families like ours survive the unthinkable. From specialized transplant care to child life services that bring comfort and normalcy into hospital rooms, these programs make all the difference during long hospital stays.

We know firsthand how critical these resources are. The nurses, doctors, staff, and child life specialists on 7B, the transplant unit at CHP, cared for Carmelo with extraordinary skill and compassion. They treated us like family and made us feel at home when home and the life we knew, was miles away. They got us care packages when we were going through rough times, set up surprise dates for us, printed pictures of Vinny when we missed him and celebrated birthdays and holidays with us. They supported us through the hardest days of our lives and celebrated the victories right alongside us and we will be forever grateful. 

My hope is that through this walk and your generosity, we can help ensure that every child and every family facing a medical crisis has access to the same extraordinary care, support, and compassion we received at CHP.
