Welcome to Team Mighty Malone!
We have created Team Mighty Malone as many of you know he was diagnosed with left spastic hemiparesis, a subcategory of cerebral palsy, shortly after his first birthday in April of 2025. Since his diagnosis, we have learned that he suffered a stroke while in utero which happens in approximately .001% of births annually.
Because of his stroke, he was left with a left-sided deficit. Since we started early intervention therapy, he has excelled in his gross motor skills now meeting most of his motor milestones on time.
He is currently working every day at using his left hand consistently. He does occupational therapy as well as constraint induced movement therapy where we cast his right arm to "force" him in to using the left. Despite the obvious frustrations that come with this, he is the strongest, most determined little boy we have ever known. Each day we’re working closer and closer to talking and have even started learning basic signing to allow for better communication.
We have the most incredible team of family and friends who have rallied around us as a family and shown their support for Malone, but also to Shawn and I as his parents. His strength and determination is so inspirational to anyone around him and his smile is beyond contagious. We know that this kid is destined for greatness - this past year has shown us that nothing can stop him!
