My name is Marcell Patrick-James Schefdore-Fitzgerald II. Son of Marcell Schefdore-Fitzgerald I & Kayla Prater.


At 6 weeks old, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain cancer called Choroid Plexus Carcinoma, affecting the ventricles that produce cerebrospinal fluid. I underwent two rounds of chemotherapy, and the tumor was successfully surgically removed at the end of March 2025. My recovery is ongoing, and my progress continues to be closely monitored. UPMC has provided the absolute best care and hope to the entire network of MJ's squad.

I will be participating remotely in The Walk for Children's, presented by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan, on June 6, 2026. My involvement is motivated by a desire to contribute to advancements in children's healthcare.

I will be joining thousands of others in my community and across the world in the fight to power the advanced care that can change a child's life.
