Abigail's Army
Four words no parent ever wants to hear: your child needs surgery . In the last 18 months, there has never been a dull moment with Abigail. From the whirlwind of finding out about craniosynostosis, to the month leading up to surgery, she has kept us on our toes. Last November, Abigail underwent cranial vault surgery to help fix her craniosynostosis. Looking back, I can remember the exact days leading up to surgery. The preoperative appointments, the scans, the bloodwork. Everything. Our teams sat down with us and did an amazing job on what to expect the day of and how they were going to take care of Abigail during this time. I would like to say we try to forget about that day, but we cannot. One of the only things that kept us at a peace of mind during this entire experience was the amazing care at Children’s Hospital. From the nurses, to the housekeepers, and everyone in between. It was during this time being on the patient side rather than the nursing side, that I got to see how big of an impact healthcare and Children’s Hospital is to many patients and families. This year again we will walk for Children’s Hospital. In our eyes, this walk is for Abby and all the other kids that are unstoppable. I have said it once and will continue to say it. Abby is the strongest person I have ever met and has given me strength in ways I know I never would have imagined. Please consider donating to help many other families and patients and to be a part of #Abbysarmy for UPMC Children’s Hospital.
