Team Rian's Resilience
Welcome to Team Rian's Resilience. Rian was born December 7, 2021. It was to be a festive, happy season indeed. New baby, the holidays upcoming, and all was well. Fast forward just a few weeks, and the festive mood turned 180 degrees. Rian woke up the night of December 21 with a fever. At just over two weeks old, something wasn't right. We took him right to the emergency room at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. In the hour it took us to get him there, his temperature had reached over 103. We were admitted into the PICU the morning of December 22. Rian was diagnosed with sepsis and bacterial meningitis due to group b strep. We spent almost a week at Children's before being moved to the Children's Home. We spent our first Christmas and New Years as a family of 4 apart. Our daughter was devastated. He was released from the Children's Home on January 5, 2022.
Rian is a fighter. He is currently a very happy toddler. Taking him to Children's was a no brainer for us as it is nationally ranked to be among the best. If we hadn't acted so quickly, and if he hadn't received the highest level of care at Children's, we may not have our son today.
I am participating in Walk for Children’s 2025 presented by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan because I want to make a difference for sick kids and their families. I will be joining thousands of others in my community and across the world in support of a movement to advance pediatric health care for kids and families in need.
Every child deserves the chance to just be a kid. But for kids who are sick or injured, hospital visits and treatments can take time away from the activities that make being a kid so special.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation to my page. You, too, can help provide hope, healing, and healthier tomorrows for the brave kids at UPMC Children’s Hospital.
Thank you for your support as I Walk for Children’s!
