I am participating in Walk for Children’s 2022 presented by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan because I want to make a difference for sick and injured kids and their families. I will be joining thousands of others in my community and across the world in support of a movement to advance pediatric health care for kids and families in need.

We were so thankful for the amazing care Maggie and Thea received at just six days old when they were admitted to Children's for jaundice. While we recognize this is a relatively common issue in babies, especially premature babies (they were born at 36 weeks), it's never easy to see your babies like this. I was running on little to no sleep, I was sore from my c-section, I was missing Max and feeling guilty for how little time I was spending with him, I was hormonal, sweaty (nothing like that postpartum smell, am I right?), and at that point I was crying more than I wasn't. Each person we talked to (and there were a lot of them, each baby had their own care team), treated us with kindness, patience, and treated the babies as if they were their own. At one point I had each babies nurse sitting on either side of me on the couch while I cried from feeling so overwhelmed. We truly can't thank them enough.

With Max, thankfully his only experience at Children's is when he fell in the yard two Thanksgivings ago and wasn't able to walk. We spent a few hours in the ER, getting x-rays, trying to get him to put pressure on his leg to hopefully avoid getting a cast. At the last minute - literally, we were minutes away from taking him to get a full leg cast, he decided he could run around the ER room. The docs (shoutout to Dr. Maria Antonucci) treated Shawn and I as part of their team - keeping us super informed and making sure all three of us were comfortable while in a cold ER room on Thanksgiving. ER staff and physicians are a special group of people.

We can't forget the amazing group at Children's Community Pediatrics Allegheny where all three babies have been seen since they were born. Dr. Tucker and the rest of the team provide the utmost care for their patients. I took the babies to their 2-month visit by myself, and I didn't even feel nervous because I knew the staff would go out of their way to help me open doors, carry a car seat, and help watch the babies when needed. We can't recommend their office enough!

All of that to say, please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation to my page. You, too, can help provide hope, healing, and healthier tomorrows for the brave kids at UPMC Children's Hospital. Thank you for your support as I Walk for Children's!
