Welcome to the My Brothers Keeper Page!
Our Back Story:
In April of 2017, the 34 wk preemies made their grand entry and quickly became apart of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh NICU family, where they spent their first 6wks of life. From then on we’ve spent so much time there in various parts of the hospital whether it was for an appointment, admission, or ER visit. Unfortunately, our faces and the boys names became familiar to some of the hospital staff and they’d greet me (mom) or ask about them in passing.
Before they were born I knew Jaxon, Twin A, was going to have issues with his heart and would need surgery soon after birth. What I didn’t know was that he would have a stroke, issues with his intestines, and a laundry list of other things wrong, all of which were totally out of left field. I was on edge and thought the worst anytime a call came, a doctor coming in the room, etc., especially after being told he wouldn’t make it.After numerous surgeries, hospital stays, testings, for other issues beyond his heart, he still stands! All praise to God!
Carson, Twin B, put up just as much fight during his short time. He’s had so many complications and respiratory illnesses including rhinovirus, bronchitis, pneumonia, recurrent croup, and the list goes on. Due to his premature birth, immature lungs, intubation at such a young age, he still has some tissue scarring making him more susceptible to these illnesses. Furthermore, even harder for him to fight them off! He’s has had his share of stays in the intensive care unit and a life scare being rushed to the hospital after loosing consciousness.
Fast forward to now here they are still living, thriving, and making strides towards better health! Without the help of all the medical staff-specialists, doctors, surgeons, nurses, family support persons, and so on we wouldn’t be here to tell our story.
Please know myself, children, and family will be forever grateful for the care, hi-tech equipment, knowledge base, and so much more here at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. I’m hoping the donations will help to further advance the quality and availability to care for other sick children. Most of it all, to allow another mother, father, or family to be able to speak their truth regarding their loved one’s success story.
Lastly, I’d like to highlight that this year marks our 7th year of participation. We are thankful for all of the people who have supported us along the way. Whether it be by joining us to walk, sponsoring another walker, or made a donation to the cause. Thank you!
With love,
Carson, Jaxon, Mom of twins-Ashley, and our whole My Brothers Keepers team
