Time to Walk the Walk!
Every single day, I get to come into work and write about heroes.
There are kids at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh who literally danced their way through chemotherapy. There are teenage cancer survivors who--years after recovery--came back to our hospital to volunteer because they wanted to inspire hope in others by sharing their stories. Our physician-researchers are nail-bitingly close to developing a revolutionary treatment method for type 1 diabetes. Our Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine is working directly with community partners to identify, educate, and empower at-risk adolescents to prevent youth violence. And all the while, our doctors and nurses continue to elevate the patient experience to new heights, providing not only the most advanced clinical care, but the most compassionate and emotionally supportive services possible.
There are so many types of heroes at UPMC Children's Hospital, from brave patients to brilliant researchers to dedicated child life specialists. But all these heroes have one thing in common: they depend on donors like us.
Philanthropy provides vital social and emotional support services for patients and families in their time of greatest need. It equips physicians with the most advanced medical technology. It fuels cutting-edge research that leads to life-saving medicine. And at the end of the day, philanthropy is what empowers our hospital to give children the precious gift of life.
I'm walking and donating for the heroes I get to write about, and I hope you will too.
