On Saturday, June 1, our team is participating in the fourth annual Walk for Children’s at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park. Please join us and thousands of patients, families, and supporters of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to help make a difference in the lives of the kids in our community and beyond. While we are walking for several children, last year was Nolan and Kaleb, this year we’d like to focus on some special girls. Here’s LenaRose’s story:
In August of last year(2018) we were sent to Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh for a MRI to rule out any possibility of a genetic disease that could cause the vision issues my daughter LenaRose, 9, has had all her life. Doctors were so positive she did not have Neurofibromatosis, but wanted to cover all bases. The MRI revealed a tumor on Lenas brain stem, which we never even imagined they’d find anything! So that led to a lot more doctors appointments with 4 more doctors being added to her team of doctors. We ended up finding another tumor on one of her auditory nerves as well. These findings all led us to the genetics department, where the more definitive answers were to be uncovered. We now have very regular visits(every 3 months) with radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, and audiology; but these doctors have been amazing! They have all made us feel so comfortable with our new “norm”. Thank you Children’s for being more than our team, thank you for being our new family!
Your support will help UPMC Children’s Hospital continue to give kids the chance they deserve, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our team invites you to join us in supporting UPMC Children’s by registering to walk on our team or donating.
Thank you for helping us reach our goal and Give Kids A Chance To Be Kids!
